Doctor of Philosophy (Chemical Engineering)

The doctoral programme is a research-based programme designed to award a PhD through advanced, independent and original research conducted with close supervision by qualified academics. Students can start the study based on their interest in chemical engineering in specialised areas such as energy, biotechnology, material and particle engineering, environmental and safety engineering, modelling and simulation, oil and gas engineering and process engineering. They have the opportunity to improve their abilities in research with exposure to current technologies and tools in chemical engineering. Upon enrolment, students are required to attend research methodology and entrepreneur courses. Students are expected to defend their research proposal upon completing this course.

A Master’s degree in the Chemical Engineering/ Oil and Gas Engineering field or related fields accepted by the UiTM Senate.

OR

A Bachelor’s degree with the following conditions:

(i) A first-class degree in Chemical Engineering, Oil and Gas Engineering or a relevant field, from UiTM or any institution of higher learning recognized by the UiTM Senate;

OR

(ii) CGPA of at least 3.67 or equivalent from an academic program or program from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in a relevant field from any institution of higher learning recognized by the UiTM Senate;

AND

Pass an interview session and research proposal presentation.

International applicants are required to obtain a minimum: (MUET/IELTS/TOEFL/CEFR)

• TOEFL certificate with a score of at least 417-450 for (paper-based) or 107-131 (computer-based) or 35-45 (IBT); or
• IELTS certificate with at least Band 5; or
• MUET Band 3
• Any English Language Test which is equivalent to B1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR)

Candidates who do not have TOEFL or IELTS are required to attend six (6) months of English Proficiency Class (EPC) prior to enrolment in the program. Upon completion of the EPC program, candidates need to sit for TOEFL/IELTS/MUET examination with the score stated above.
